On a weekend in the middle of November, Jamie and his father went back up to Pulaski on another "spur of the moment" fishing trips. It turned out to be an amazing 3 days on the river, and also a huge update for the NJ Fishing Chronicles.

After Easter, Mark, Jamie, his father, and Uncle Bob went up to Pulaski, NY on a Steelhead trip. This was Mark and Jamie's second trip to the river this year, and proved to be more productive than the first. Without a foot of snow on the ground and better conditions overall, this time around produced much larger trout in bigger numbers.

Male Steelhead:
Caught by Jamie, April 26th, 2003

The steelhead spawn run is known as the best time to fish for them, and the Salmon River is one of the prime spots. The small town of Pulaski in upstate New York is turned into a fishing community during these months.

Steelhead are constantly feeding during the spawn, so catching one is much more likely to happen. The two below were caught at mid-day and late evening, which shows anytime can be productive.

During spawning season, you will notice the male will begin to form a slight upward "hook" in its lower jaw (seen below). I'm guessing here, but after the spawn it will be less pronounced as it returns to its normal shape.
